Cabin Pressure

Cabin Pressure

Okay. I had decided to do a review of the BBC 4 radio series Cabin Pressure, but I didn’t know how to start it without sounding like a brainwashed media reporter, so I’m starting it like this.

I honestly didn’t expect to like this series so much. I mean, I got it simply because Benedict Cumberbatch is in it and I’ve been on a radio program kick for the last year. I didn’t really expect to like it so much.

BUT DEAR LORD, I DO. Best decision I’ve made in a long time.

Good enough that I have, in fact, sought out Cabin Pressure fanfiction. Oh yes indeed. That’s how you know that I really, really enjoy something.

The characters are fantastic. Caroline is so disgruntled and snarky and Douglas is so deadpan hilarious and a tricksy bastard and Martin is so endearingly earnest and unlucky and Arthur’s a complete idiot. The combination of these folks would invariably produce hilarious misadventures in a small charter airline company.

The dialog is spot on, the jokes are funny enough that it takes everything in my power not to laugh out loud at work when I listen to these, and MJN has quickly become my favourite charter airline company ever.

I don’t know what else to say about this other than I listen to my favourite episodes ALL THE TIME. I’m not exaggerating. I listen to at least one episode at least three times a week while I’m working. They cheer me up when I’m anxious about having to call people and they make the time pass quickly when the day drags along. I love it.

Definite recommendation here. Go listen to it now. It’s brilliant.
