Envelope, Moleskine, Blanket, and Yarn Things

1. Mother's Day

Last week(ish) was Mother's Day, so during that weekend I sneaked a clever card around to my siblings and grabbed a gift card for my mom to JoAnn Fabric & Crafts. She's been enviously asking about everything I've brought back from the craft store for the past couple of months because she's trying to pay off her very last credit card and doesn't have the cash for spontaneous fun things. We've got plenty of planned fun things going on, but I thought she could use a little cash to blow on some yarn that catches her fancy should she happen to wander into JoAnn's while she's out getting things done.

And I made the card a little fancy envelope.






2. Commission


Just officially sold my first commissioned embroidered moleskine. HYDRA. It was a challenge, but I'm pleased with how it turned out.



3. Double Seed Stitch Blanket


Pattern: Double Seed Stitch Blanket
Needles: US 13 circulars
Yarn: Lion Brand, Pound of Love - White


I don't plan on actually using this as a blanket, but as a backdrop for product and blog photos. I have a white sheet that I've been using, but I'm finding it impossible to iron out the wrinkles, even after it's just been washed.


Also, trouble makers.



4. Niddy Noddy and Drop Spindle

I've been spinning some new yarns for the shop lately, so I've invested in an adjustable niddy noddy from Fiber Artist Supply Co.

Gifts Given

Forest Granny Square Blanket

Hook: US H8/5.00 mm
Yarn: Sensations Sincerely in Oatmeal, Cream, Green, and Emerald Green
Pattern: I drew this one out myself. I used the same basic granny square shape as I did on my other granny square blanket.




To be honest, I was going to give this one as a gift to someone for Christmas, but it didn't turn out quite the way I had thought. There isn't enough contract between the "light" and "dark" squares and I'm not sure the color combinations worked as well as I had planned either. I mean, it's not terrible, but it wasn't up to my expectations.

So I kept it, folded it in half, and slung it over the top of my craft storage thing as a sort of table cloth. I will probably end up using it as a lap blanket while I'm sitting at the computer at some point, but it's entirely possible that this project may get frogged within the next few years.

Car Blanket

Needles: US 10 – 6 mm circular needles

Yarn: Whatever I had lying around.

If you’ve been hibernating or live in warmer climes, it’s been snowing and icing a lot this winter, which has been lovely, but there’s been a lot of people getting their cars stranded on the highway. So I figured I could use a blanket in the car. So I made one. Huzzah!

Purple Crossed Blanket

Needle Size: US10
Yarn: Red Heart Super Saver
Pattern: Caron’s Sage Throw















Another purple blanket has been finished! This one is too small to be really used by an adult, so I’ve decided that I will be donating this blanket and the last purple blanket to Project Linus.

Two Purples Afghan Throw

Hook: N-9.00MM

Yarn: Red Heart something or other. It's a ton of spare yarn without the labels.

Pattern: 5 1/2 Hour Throw

Measurements: 5' (60") x 4' 2" (50")

Project Linus Blanket

I know it’s been a while since the Project 4 Awesome finished, but I still wanted to make a post about what I actually made for that project.

Project Linus is an organization that donates blankets to kids who have been traumatized or are critically ill. This year for the Project 4 Awesome, I decided that I wanted to make a blanket for this charity.




This blanket measured about 54” by 60” and was knit using about four average skeins of yarn and size NUMBER knitting needles. I could have easily knitted a blanket with either a garter or stockinet stitch, but I wanted to make this something nice. I used THIS PATTERN which demonstrates an aesthetically interesting pattern without being too complex.

It was actually very easy to whip this one out. It only took me a couple of afternoons to throw together and the resulting blanket was very soft and draped easily, unlike crocheted blankets that I’ve made in the past.
