Bitch Slap

Most of the time, I’m glad that I’m subscribed to Netflix, but there are some days when I’m really glad I’m subscribed to Netflix. While recent, big name releases may be delayed for the complicated politics of movie renting and streaming, there are plenty of lesser known gems to be discovered.

Bitch Slap is one of those gems.

This is the description from Netflix itself.

”Three naughty girls - - leggy stripper Trixie (Julia Voth), homicidal drug runner Camero (America Olivo), and high-powered businesswoman Hel (Erin Cummings) - - team up to rip off a crime kingpin, but surprise betrayals quickly spin out of control. Guns, hand-to-hand combat, scantily clad women, and plenty of tongue-in-cheek humor populate this guilty-pleasure throwback to 1960s and ‘70s exploitation films.”

Yeah. Awesome, right?

Guns, boobs, and exaggerated humor to the point of ridiculousness were all I expected to get out of this movie. I was mistaken. The actual plot and storytelling devices of this movie are intriguing and keep your eyes glued to the screen. There are actually two plotlines – one telling the story of these three women looking for treasure in the desert and the other telling each woman’s personal stories via flashbacks. It’s like smashing a stereotypical low-brow action movie with Momento. I would never have been able to guess the final character reveal and it’s worth watching this movie for that alone.

And, for a huge nerd like me, this movie is hilarious for its cameos. Michael Hurst (Iolas from Hercules: The Legendary Journeys and Xena: Warrior Princess) plays the crime boss, which hilarious in and of itself, but he is joined by Kevin Sorbo (Hercules), Lucy Lawless (Xena), and Renee O’Conner (Gabrielle) in cameo roles. I actually found out about this movie via their IMDB profiles and I’m really glad I did.

I would definitely recommend this one. It’s got action and hot girls kissing and explosions, as well as an interesting and stimulating plot. I don’t know where you might find this movie outside of Netflix, but it is worth looking for.

ETA: Scratch that. If you click on the title or movie poster above, it'll take you to where you can buy it on Amazon, if you feel so inclined.
